THE DEPARTED

John Pule's beautiful, hiapo-inspired loose canvas entitled Taketake mo e Vaka, which featured in last November's Important Paintings and Contemporary Art auction finally sold yesterday in a negotiated sale for an undisclosed sum. Congratulations to them on obtaining a fantastic example from a very important body of work which gets better with time...

We're almost ready to view

By the end of today our mammoth installation will be complete. The current catalogue is one of the biggest (at over 1000 lots) we have ever offered and the A+O team have been hard at work to be ready for the pre-auction exhibition which opens tomorrow.

The Gallery Expands

The excitement mounts at A+O as our new & improved gallery space is nearing completion. These pics show Darren and Chris our builders skinning the walls prior to painting in what was previously the black gallery. The expanded gallery will nearly double the practical exhibition space in this part of the building - perfect for large scale works.

We are going like the clappers to make sure it is ready for February 25 when the current catalogue goes on view. Standby for the completion images early next week.

Important Paintings and Contemporary Art - Entries Invited

For those of you who don't receive one of these in your letter box in the coming couple of days here is our latest brochure in electronic form. It folds nicely and looks a bit more schmick in hard-copy form but nonetheless:

Katie Lockhart

If the art direction and interior styling in the latest catalogue looks a notch or two up upon that previously encountered in our catalogues it is because Katie Lockhart has come on board to direct the photography of the Douglas Lloyd-Jenkins section. Katie makes things look good and has worked with Karen Walker, Church Road, Resene and Takapuna's The Department Store. You can check out her new website and latest project at http://www.everyday-needs.com/shop/

Upcoming Catalogue

Douglas Lloyd Jenkins at the Hawkes Bay Museum and Art Gallery where he is now the Director,

ART+OBJECT is currently working on a cluster of sales and collections which will make up the next catalogue (no. 41), which goes to print the week beginning the 14th of February. The catalogue is notable for the number of interesting and high-profile collections which provide its basis. The New Collectors' Art auction includes the collection of two well-known arts community personalities Gregory Flint (who sadly passed last year) and former long-standing mayor of Waitakere City, Bob Harvey. The Decorative Arts component of the catalogue is a full and varied one, built around the collection of Douglas Lloyd Jenkins. Jenkins is a creative force in NZ design and has been described by Wallpaper magazine as one of the most influential design writers in the Southern Hemisphere. He has specialised throughout his career in restoring to prominence overlooked practitioners of the arts, architecture and design who contributed enormously to the creation of contemporary New Zealand culture. Douglas has hitherto collected heavily in the area of New Zealand Twentieth Century Design, Art and Applied Arts. Now, it seems, his collecting proclivities have shifted somewhat into the region of Victoriana. Believe it or not... You can watch his talk 'New Zealand Design and the secret history of Middle Earth' at the 'Smart works' symposium at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney here, from a couple of years back here.
