Enjoy Public Art Gallery

VIEWING: 21 May from 3-6pm, 22 May 12-4pm, online @ www.enjoy.org.nz from 14 May
AUCTION: Saturday 22 May, from 4:30pm

On 12 February 2009, Welsh artist Bedwyr Williams completed 24 paintings over 24 hours, in 24 Wellington locations. The series of paintings represent an epic and mobile reproduction of his encounters and experiences of life in Wellington -- in the pouring rain. Enjoy is excited to announce that these 24 works on canvas will be auctioned off in the gallery to celebrate the launch of the eponymous project catalogue, Le 'Welsh' Man's 24Hour.

Williams' Le 'Welsh' Man's 24Hour was part of the New Zealand-wide One Day Sculpture series; the project stands out as one that truly tested the conceptual and practical premises of the series. Each of the 24 paintings presents an honest, and at times gruelling, anthropological observation to time and place. They are each imbued with the performative, self-reflexive humour that Williams is internationally renowned for, and each capture in their own way, as paintings and genuine relics of performance, the triumph and tragedy of art itself.

The 24 paintings are priced to sell, and each come with a copy of the full-colour project catalogue, published by Enjoy. The auction is generously supported by Art + Object and proceeds will be donated to charity by the artist. Visit www.enjoy.org.nz, or contact the gallery on (04) 3840174 for more information.

Bedwyr Williams was awarded the prestigious Paul Hamlyn Award for Visual Art in 2004 and in 2005 was one of the artists who represented Wales at the Venice Biennale. In 2006 he was shortlisted for the Beck's Futures Prize, exhibited at the ICA, London.
