Jeffrey Harris's Stranger in a Strange Land was offered way back in A+O's November 2007 Important Paintings and Sculpture auction where it was one of the stars of the show. The work had great exhibiton history and provenance, featuring heavily in the promotional material for Justin Paton's D.P.A.G 2004/2005 retrospective exhibiton. The work was withdrawn at the time of auction due to a dispute of ownership and has sat in storage at A+O since. Last week the work, after clear title was finally established, was sold to a Christchurch collector who has lived with a reproduction of the work on an exhibiton flier since the show. He registered interest at the original auction and was clearly disappointed when the painting was withdrawn. Congratulations to him and I guess good things come to those who wait...
